My name is Will MacDonald and Brian Batsch was my brother in law for 30 years. Brian married Sharon Smith and I married Patty Smith 22 years later thats how we first met. Although I did not know Brian that well there will always be things about him that will stay with me for life . The day I married his sister in law Patty Smith he instantly accepted me as part of the family and made me feel extremely welcome . Patty and I over the years spent a number of weekends in Edmonton with Sharon and Brian and he was always a gracious host and I enjoyed many cigars and glasses of scotch in his backyard . Brian was defiantly one of a kind and the most talented human I have ever met from his paintings to his interior decoration to his exterior decoration these things were created in the mind of a truly great artist . I will miss you Brian and you have left an impression on me I will never forget.

Brian I was an incredible friend to me in so many ways. I met Brian when I joined Riverview Rotary. He had such a great sense of humour and was a terrible tease which I enjoyed as I grew up with 2 older brothers who teased. Brian was so kind and caring and shared all of his creative talent with so many. When he formed the Full Monty group of Rotary Men to design landscapes as a Fundraiser I formed a group of Rotary women in Let Us Entertain You to raise funds. We had more fun at the Rotary Ball auctioning off our two projects. Brian has left such an amazing legacy of talent that will live on in all of our hearts. His love of Sharron , Brice and his grandchildren plus his love of life are gifts to all who were fortunate enough to spend time with Brian. May the wonderful memories and the love of family and friends surround all of us during this very sad time.

Brian was an amazing man and doting husband, father/grandfather. He was brilliant, successful, and artistic. He envisioned and created the most beatiful life for his family and friends. I’m sincerely grateful for the friendship and hospitality Brian and Sharron extended to me and my late spouse over the years. I am a better person from knowing him. He was a class act all the way. My deepest sympathy to Sharron and the family.

My heart is heavy with this loss of a life so well lived, and particularly sad for my dear friend Sharron, her son Brice and family.....

Brian was a force to be reckoned with, and his absence will be felt for a long time to come, by many. My heart particularly breaks for the loss of a beautiful marriage, and the shared love and exceptional lives of two Best Friends (Sharron and Brian).

Brian was always very kind to me. He passed me the baton as volunteer president of the Canadian Liver Foundation many years ago now, invited me to Rotary, always was interested in my goings and doings, as simple as they probably appeared to such a dynamic individual as Brian. The penultimate gentleman. His art left me in awe and wonder. So much talent!

I know he is well on his way to new and wonderful worlds now.... Worlds we can only dream of, but I fully believe his spirit lives on valiantly and beautifully to grace other realms now. Hold the light for us Brian, so we, too, can find our way in due course.

Sharron, we share your grief, but not as deep to the bone as your own sorrow must be. In the days ahead, know that we are here to support you as best we can during such a tragic time, and for the go-forward. Brian would expect no less of us! May your grief be as easy as possible, my friend.

With love,
Nita

We are so glad that you shared this moving and beautifully crafted slideshow with us. It was a pleasure to come to know you and Brian on our Viking cruise together. This gives us a glimpse of of the full and remarkable life you had together. What memories!

You and Brian remind me of the lines from my favorite poem, Tennyson's "Ulysses":
"I cannot rest from travel: I will drink/
Life to the lees:..." and "I am become a name;
For always roaming with a hungry heart/
Much have I seen and known; cities of men/
And manners, climates, councils, governments,/
Myself not least, but honour'd of them all..."

Thank you again for sharing this. Although Joe and I knew Brian only for a few days, we will always remember.

What a lovely and wonderful soul the heavens have gained. So many happy golf days spent at the P Club and as guests of Sharron and Brian at their home and in their garden of paradise. Xx 💋

Brian was so loved by his family and his love for Sharron is and was always felt by those around. A beautiful love story that while has paused on earth will live on in eternity and the after life. Xx 💋

Sunrises and sunsets will come to you with an extra special touch of colour from Brian’s paint brush. Xx
Much love to you all Sharron and our deepest sympathies.

As Dianne and I remember Brian, we reflect on a remarkable friend and neighbor who touched our lives in so many ways. For over 30 years, Brian was always ready to lend a helping hand, never hesitating to volunteer his endless talents to our projects.
Brian and I shared a bond over our passions for golfing, skiing, cigars, scotch, food, fun, and, above all, our love for family. His enthusiasm for life was contagious, and I fondly recall how he persistently encouraged me to join Rotary with him - a commitment I still carry with me today.
Though the distance separated us in recent years, both Dianne and I will deeply miss Brian's presence in our lives.
Rest in peace, my friend. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Though Brian is no longer physically with us, his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his generosity, creativity, and tireless service to others. His talent, intelligence and kindness have left an unforgettable mark on our hearts.
The love he shared with Sharron was a bond like no other, a love that will continue to inspire us.
Brian‘s spirit of giving, his art and his unwavering commitment to others will live on in everything he gave, and the love he spread.
Rest easy my friend, your memory and the love you gave will stay with me.
Until we meet again.
